Attendance Guidelines

Date: Sep-23

Contacting Attendance

  • When contacting the Attendance Officer(s) use the designated group mail - Attendance Officers - grdattendance@gmail.com. This ensures that any messages will not be missed.

  • Do not contact attendance officers by Facebook or other social media to make requests.

  • Failure to contact as advised may result in queries/messages not being answered by the Attendance Officer.

Signing in

  • At every training session there will be a sign in sheet. Take responsibility for writing your name on the sheet. Do not assume that someone else will have signed you in.

  • Sign the sheet with your derby/skater name – if this changes, make sure the officers are aware. Note, if you do not have a skate name then sign with a normal name, preferably with Surname initial incase of multiple people with the same name.

  • In the case that you do forget to sign the sheet, there is a maximum of 2 weeks after any training session in which you can contact the Attendance Officer to have attendance updated.

Training Sessions

  • Attendance is given for any training session attended as either a skater, referee/NSO or for those attending off-skates and actively engaging in the session. Note: for those attending off-skates/officiating, this should be noted on the attendance sheet.

  • If a training session is cancelled, league members will automatically be given attendance for that session.

Extra sessions organised by the league

  • Attendance will be given for extra training sessions organised by GRD. This includes:

  • additional training sessions

  • coaching at bootcamps

  • coaching at GRR sessions

  • game day attendance (skaters/officials/helper)

Extra attendance points are given as bonus points and are added onto the nearest standard training session date. Note: multiple attendance points cannot be awarded on a single day; bonus points can only be given within the same week.

Events outwith GRD

  • In accordance with the bylaws, a skater may gain attendance for training missed due to representing Glasgow Roller Derby either by taking part in an event or training another league. In these circumstances, this will have been organised by the appropriate committee and must be approved by the committee Head.

  • Attendance will only be given if this event clashes with a GRD training session.

Annual Leave

  • League members are given 8 days annual leave in addition to any club-organised holidays. Holidays are taken as individual days.

  • Members are given an attendance point for the days in which annual leave is taken.

  • When taking annual leave, always notify the attendance officers in advance. Annual leave should not be requested in retrospect.

  • Annual leave should be requested via email to Attendance Officers. Any other method of contact may result in the failure of annual leave being recorded.

Short-term Injury

  • Injury leave applies when a member is absent for more than 2 weeks and less than 3 months due to an injury that inhibits skating and/ or the ability to help at training sessions.

  • Any time below a 2 week period will not be classed as injury and can be absorbed by the 3 month average for team selection.

  • The club member in question will be informed if injury leave does not apply.

Long Term Leave (Injury/Time-Out)

  • Applies to GRD members who are pregnant or have an injury which leaves them unable to train for more than 3 months. In addition, time-out can be used for compassionate leave.

  • When requesting long term leave, league members must contact both the league secretary and the attendance officers, this ensures membership lists are kept up to date and the leagues attendance is appropriately lauded during this time.

  • Any skater returning to training after long term leave must alert the league secretary and the attendance officers, returning skaters will be assessed by coaches and HOT as safe to scrim.
