Roller derby is a fast and dynamic full contact team sport played on quad roller skates. It first emerged in the 1930s and was resurrected in its current form in the early 2000s. It began to increase in popularity in the UK and Europe in 2007.
Glasgow Roller Derby was established in 2007, the first roller derby league in Scotland and fourth in the UK. It consists of two travel teams, and three home teams who compete solely in Glasgow.
The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) is the international governing body of women’s flat track roller derby, representing more than 400 member leagues on six continents. The WFTDA sets the international standards for rankings, rules, and competition each year, and provides guidance and resources to the sport of flat track derby.
