Inclusion statement
GRD strives to create a welcoming and supportive environment for every member of the league and our wider GRD community.
We aim to treat everyone fairly within the context of their activity, regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, political belief, or economic status and are committed to the principles of equality.
We take seriously any concerns raised of racism, xenophobia, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and any other form of discrimination. Making verbal, written or visual statements which can be perceived as being of an inflammatory or offensive nature is not tolerated in accordance with our internal policies and procedures.
The well-being of our members and visitors is a priority for us, therefore we endeavour to make our events a safe space for all.
Values
Be Supportive – We strive to foster a supportive environment that promotes a sense of empowerment, well-being, and success. By supporting our community, we want our members to feel valued and included. All members of our community will have the opportunity to express their opinions in a respectful manner.
Be Welcoming – We aim to create a welcoming space for all members of our community. To do so we promote kindness and respect. We promote the different participation opportunities within Glasgow Roller Derby and encourage people to participate at the level that is right for them.
Be Considerate – We consider the needs and perspectives of our community. We understand the importance of respectful communication and are mindful of the impact of our words and actions. We aim to take care of our members and wider community.
Be An Ally – We recognise our privilege and aim to use this to advocate for marginalised individuals or groups – especially those who have face discrimination or oppression. This involves education of our members and using our platform and resources to effect positive change.
Priorities
Based on the results of our annual membership survey we have identified the following Equality, Diversity and Inclusion priorities:
Supporting mental health and neurodiversity
Supporting those living in poverty and low incomes
Supporting diverse ethnic communities within Glasgow
Scotland’s Mental Health Charter for Physical Activity and Sport
We have signed Scotland’s Mental Health Charter for Physical Activity and Sport. The purpose of the Charter is to use the collective power of physical activity and sport to create positive lasting change in mental health and wellbeing.
We are committed to ensuring that there is no barrier to engaging, participating and achieving in roller derby.
