Glasgow Roller Derby is a self-governed, non-profit, amateur sports organisation dedicated to playing and promoting women’s flat track roller derby. We aim to support the growth of our sport by encouraging teamwork, integrity, inclusivity and equality and by being proactive within the derby community. We strive to be strong, conscientious role models for the community and the sport and will foster the development of our skaters and non-skating members through hard work and dedication, whilst pursuing increasing standards for athleticism. We are wholly committed to providing an environment which facilitates the empowerment of our members through fitness and the opportunity to learn new skills.

Quotes

Pinto Mexican Kitchen, Glasgow: "Sponsoring GRD has been great for business at Pinto. It’s not just the team that you are sponsoring but the whole community that comes with them. They are a very friendly and welcoming bunch who we always look forward to serving.”

Quad Roller Skate Shop, Berlin (2013 Platinum Sponsor): “Sponsoring GRD has been our pleasure! Supporting a league that makes this sport great is central to our mission and they are incredibly diligent about making it worth our while. They go above and beyond supporting our brand making sure we get the most from our agreement.”

Anne McTaggart, MSP: "The Irn Bruisers are fantastic ambassadors for women, Glasgow and Scotland. Already within the top 10 teams in Europe, they are a superb team that are really going places - which is why I encourage as many people as possible to support and - where possible - consider corporate sponsorship of the team to make sure their dream becomes a reality."

Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon: "The success of the Irn Bruisers continues to grow month after month and it is incredibly inspiring to see so many women who are passionate about developing the roller derby sport here in Scotland. I wish the whole team every luck in their endeavour to compete at an international level in the USA, and I look forward to seeing them fly the flag for Scotland overseas and achieve the results they deserve."

Rhona McLeod, BBC Radio Scotland: “The atmosphere was brilliant and I had many girl power type tingly moments. It was unusual for me to be at an event where the women were hanging tough out there and the men were in the stands with the kids! Refreshing to say the least for a woman who loves her sport”

Lucky Hateball, GRD All-Star: “Glasgow Roller Derby has changed my life. Better health & fitness, being part of a strong community, meeting so many inspiring people and having a sense of ownership and pride in something that’s also more fun than I've ever had in my life. Viva la GRD!”

Jerry Seltzer, Sonoma, California: “It is presenting the World's fastest growing sport in Glasgow, with over 776 leagues in 27 countries and inspiring women to improve their life and that of the community.' (Jerry Seltzer is the son of Leo Seltzer, the founder of original roller derby way back in 1935!)

Scottish Parliamentary Motion S4M-06004, lodged by Bob Doris 19/03/2013: The Parliament applauds the achievement of the all-female [sic] Glasgow Roller Derby, who have been invited to compete in what is considered a prestigious roller derby competition in Pennsylvania, USA; recognises that the Irn Bruisers are ranked in the top 10 roller derby teams in Europe; understands that roller derby is one of the fastest-growing female sports in the world and encourages young women in Glasgow to be active and take part in sport; appreciates that the Glasgow Roller Derby is run entirely by volunteers; understands that travelling to America for the competition will be expensive, and encourages supporters to donate or attend fundraisers sponsored by Glasgow Roller Derby to generate the funds needed to represent Scotland in a major roller derby competition abroad.
