Team selection policy

WFTDA charter roster

A charter roster or charter team is a roster of Skaters who meet WFTDA sanctioning requirements to represent their league in WFTDA-sanctioned gameplay. This consists of a total of 20 skaters.

Leagues may enter any number of charter teams into WFTDA-sanctioned competition.

a. Additional membership fees may apply per WFTDA membership requirements.

b. There is no requirement to enter a team into the competitive system in a given year.

Currently GRD has one registered charter team (“Irn Bruisers”).

To be effective for a game, a WFTDA charter change must be submitted 30 days prior to the game start time.

Travel team rosters

A Team roster consists of 15 skaters and 2 alternates for each team.

GRD currently has 3 active travel teams:

  • Irn Bruisers (WFTDA sanctioned)

  • Maiden Grrders

  • Cannie Gingers

Selection

Charter and team roster selection can be selected up to 6 times per year depending on the needs and schedules of the teams.

At minimum the rosters should be selected quarterly between the following periods:

  • Q1 – January to March

  • Q2 – April to June

  • Q3 – July to September

  • Q4 – October to December

Captains may request for an additional selection at their discretion to align with game schedules.

Captains should alert the league secretary of their intention to select charter/team roster 1 month prior to selection.

WFTDA charter roster selection

The WFTDA charter roster is chosen by a committee of 5 using the eligibility list provided by the league secretary. This committee includes Irn Bruiser captains, Head of Training and two members of the existing charter.

In the case where more than 2 members of the existing charter volunteer for this role a vote will be held with the exiting charter members eligible to vote. The two candidates with the majority of the votes will be nominated as selectors.

Team rosters

Irn Bruisers

The roster of 15 skaters and 2 alternates is selected by the Irn Bruisers Captains from the WFTDA charter roster.

The captains can also select a maximum of 4 crossover skaters from the roster of 15 who are eligible to skate on the Maiden Grrders. For further information on crossover skaters please see below.

Maiden Grrders

The roster of 15 skaters and 2 alternates is selected by the Maiden Grrders Captains. This will include the 5 skaters on the WFTDA charter roster who have not been selected for the Irn Bruiser roster and the crossover skaters (as indicated by the Irn Bruiser captains). The remaining skaters shall be selected from the eligibility list provided by the league secretary.

The captains can also select a maximum of 4 crossover skaters from the roster of 15 who are eligible to skate on the Cannie Gingers. For further information on crossover skaters please see below.

Cannie Gingers

The roster of 15 skaters and 2 alternates is selected by the Cannie Gingers Captains. This will include the crossover skaters (as indicated by the Maiden Grrders Captains); the remaining skaters shall be selected from the eligibility list provided by the league secretary.

Captain selection

Irn Bruiser and Maiden Grrders captains are voted on an annual basis (Jan-December).

Cannie Gingers captains are voted in quarterly to allow for development through team selection.

Crossover skaters

This allows skaters to gain experience in different levels of game play within GRD. Crossover skaters have limited track time on one team and more on the other. This allows for a gradual transition between teams while learning team dynamics and strategy on one team while maintaining gameplay and skills development on another team.

Selection eligibility

To be eligible for team selection skaters must meet the following requirements:

  • Approved by the training committee to participate in matches

  • Minimum attendance as per the attendance policy

  • Be active on a committee/role within the league (as confirmed by the Head of Committee)

Skater eligibility list

The league secretary is responsible for providing the selecting captains with a skater eligibility list. This should be published 1 week prior to selection.

The league secretary will consult with the Head of Training, attendance officer and committee heads to ensure that requirements have been met.

Selection is opt-out. Any skater who does not want to be considered for charter or team selection should notify the league secretary prior to selection taking place. A skater may opt-out of selection for a particular team and be eligible to be considered for another team.
